Did you have any hesitations before coming to this retreat?
Yes, I did.
I was a little concerned about traveling alone as a woman in Morocco.
I’ve traveled all over the world, but I had been told that Morocco can be rather intense.
And I didn’t actually find that to be my experience at all.
I felt completely welcome and safe.
I could walk around by myself and it was totally fine.
I was also worried about my yoga practice.
I hadn’t practiced in six years, and I thought:
“Am I going to be good at this anymore?”
And then I realized when I got here — it doesn’t matter at all.
I was met exactly where I was.
And that was a really comforting part of this experience.
I got to just let go…
and not think about being good or bad at it.
I could just be myself.
When I got on the plane from New York, I felt very anxious. It was the anxiety of winter, the anxiety of a busy job, the anxiety of living in a loud, chaotic place. I felt very heavy, almost like something was sitting on my back. But before arriving at the self-love retreat, I kept imagining this place. I saw it on Instagram — the garden, the sunlight — and it felt so beautiful. In the first days of this transformative wellness experience, I was very tired. But with each day, I felt like a piece of the armor I had built around myself was slowly coming off. Through movement, good food, fresh air, and the practices of the yoga retreat, I started to come back down to earth. And by day seven, I felt completely renewed.
I think the biggest thing is that I was able to tune into my own frequency.
Sometimes life gets so chaotic,
and there’s so much noise around us.
It becomes really hard to hear yourself.
Here, I was able to slow down
and really listen to my own voice again.
Moving forward, I know I can come back to that.
I can slow down,
adjust,
and reconnect with myself whenever I need to.
